Mayo, the county seat of Lafayette County, population 1,226, is small town America personified. It has two excellent restaurants, a local grocery store, and at least one antique/collectible shop which is worth your time. Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park is located within easy bicycling distance of Mayo. In fact, there is a bicycle route to the park which passes through Mayo. Speaking of bicycles, a bicycle route is also available from Mayo to the Gulf coast fishing village of Steinhatchee. Or forget the bikes and just drive. Troy Springs State Park as well as several other springs are also nearby. Mayo is the kind of place where your stress level will drop and may just disappear altogether. In the fall of 2018, Mayo changed its name, at least temporarily, to Miracle Whip! Is it Mayo or is it Miracle Whip?
